Dear Families:
A safe and supportive school environment is an area of focus for ELANCO. To gather information on our school environment and climate, the District will be administering the Safe and Civil Schools Climate and Safety Survey. The survey is about 15 minutes in length and will be available between March 23rd to March 27th. The survey will help us identify what we are doing well and what we need to work on, such as safety in a particular location in the school, learners’ understanding of the expectations for behavior, or communication with families.
Learners in grades 3–12, staff, and parents/guardians participate in the survey. All responses are anonymous. The resulting data will allow us to see if the three groups—parents/guardians, learners, and staff—agree or disagree about important issues related to school safety and climate.
  • Example parent questions are:
  • Are staff members supportive of learners?
  • Are families informed about the rules and expectations for learner behavior?
  • Is inappropriate language a problem at school?
  • Example learner questions are:
  • Are adults kind to learners?
  • Are learners taught the rules and correct behavior for the cafeteria?
  • Is misbehavior on buses a problem?
More information about how parents can access the Safe and Civil Schools Climate and Safety Survey will be sent home closer to the survey window. If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, please submit your request in writing to your child’s building principal.
Our schools are committed to providing a safe and encouraging place for your child. Thank you for helping us make our schools safe and welcoming!
Respectfully,
Nadine A. Larkin, Ed.D.
Assistant Superintendent
Eastern Lancaster County School District
